After death the ancient Egyptians believed your heart had to be weighed. It had to be lighter than a feather. To find out if your heart qualified for the trip to the afterlife, your spirit would enter the Hall of Ma’at. The weighing scene shows the AKH being led by the hand of Anubis. It is Anubis who performs the weighing. The heart is placed on the left scale, the feather of Ma’at on the right. At the very top of the Judgement scene the AKH makes offerings to 12 of the major Gods/Goddesses who sit in Judgement.
